Program
The Economic Internationalization Program drafted by the WTCAA for the Amersfoort region runs from 2010 through 2013. The program’s goal is measurable regional improvement in the following areas:
- Development of the Amersfoort region’s international climate: international contacts and visits will have a positive influence on the city’s international climate. The development of international education and education about internationalization will also contribute to it.
- The growth in the number of exporting companies and exports’ share of total revenue will also produce an increase in the number of jobs.
Stimulation of social innovation and sustainability:
- Organizing a range of meetings for various internationally-oriented target groups leads to faster opening of new markets. It also provides mid-sized and small companies with low threshold entry to internationalization and innovation.
- These projects have an efficient mutual strengthening effect because the target group can find all information needed about internationalization in a single and well-identified location.
- The addition of outside expertise in the area of entrepreneurship, internationalization, an international network, access to risk capital, support for business operations, coaching for start-ups in combination with an increased number of start-ups in a single location, all leads to a greater chance of success in the international market.
- And expats can be deployed faster since they can walk through all services at one time.
Stimulation of collaboration between business and education:
- Internships and final projects for HBO and ROC students give mid-sized and small companies access to expertise about international regions and trends. This reduces their distance to international sales markets.
- Regional mid-sized and small companies that provide one or more annual internships get the support of an MBO or HBO level student for the improvement of their export performance. These mid-sized and small companies are aided in return by the sources of knowledge within the student’s home MBO and/or HBO institution assisting the student-intern in the development of an export strategy.
- Facilitating the attraction of direct foreign investment with a regional view for the further growth in the number of foreign companies, increased numbers of jobs with foreign companies, and increased numbers of work and knowledge migrants.
